Musician. Known by his stage name "Mississippi Fred", he was an influential singer and slide guitarist who helped define the Delta blues. He started playing guitar at the age of 14 and was considered the first of the bluesmen from the North Mississippi region, paralleled east of the Delta region. During the 1950s, he received widespread recognition for his records with hits to include, "Going Down The River", "Kokomo", "You Gotta Move", "Baby Please Don't Go", "Shake ‘Em On Down" and many more. He performed often at festivals, concerts, clubs and in 1969, his album "I Do Not Play No Rock n Roll", was his first recording featuring an electric guitar. He continued to perform until his death from cancer.
