Archbishop of York. In 1475 he was appointed Chancellor of England. He negotiated the peace between Edward IV and Louis XI of France and in 1480 became the Archbishop of York. He lost the Chancellorship after the death of Edward IV because of his support of Elizabeth Woodville, Edward's widow, and was imprisoned. Released, he died at Cawood, near York.
