Author. Bernat i Baldoví had a prolific career as a Spanish journalist, poet and playwright, both in Valencian and Spanish Language. He is best remembered for his popular plays that reflected the life of simple people with realism and acid humor, such as "Los Pastores de Belén," "El Gafaüt," "El Mocador," "Pataques i Caragols" and his most satirical-erotic farce, "El Virgo de Vicenteta," which was later made into a film. He was a pioneer in Valencian theater. He also helped revive the traditonal Spanish "miracle play," dramatic works based on religious themes and staged outdoors. He studied law at the University of Valencia.He suffered from deafness from age 24. He co-founded three weekly newspapers: "La Donsaina" in 1844 and in 1847 "El Tabalet" and "El Sueco." A bust of Bernat i Baldoví is located in the Estación de Sueca park.
