US Congressman. When he was young his family moved to Cambridge, Guernsey County, Ohio where he spent most of his childhood working on his family's dairy farm. After high school he attended and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Michigan obtaining a law degree in 1942. During that same year the young attorney entered the United States Army as a private. He served in Europe during World War II I and achieved the rank of Captain before being discharged in 1946. After the war he returned to Cambridge where he practiced law and became interested in politics. After serving three years in the Ohio House of Representatives, the Republican was elected to Congress and served for three terms from 1955 to 1961. During his tenure the Congressman was a member of the Civil Service and judiciary committees. He chose not to run for a fourth term and returned to Cambridge where he continued his law practice and reentered public service by serving as a judge on the County's Common Pleas Court. He remained active in Cambridge civic affairs until his death.
