Church Vetran and Pioneer Closes Eventful Career at 83.

Fredonia, Coconino Co., Arizona, April 5th---Another one of those Vetrans who personally knew the Prophet Joseph Smith has passed away. On the morning of April 5th after 3 months of suffering, death called Moses Simpson Emett at his home in Fredonia, Arizona.
This stalwart pioneerwas born in Boone County, Kentucky May 14,1824 and his long life of 83 years was spent on the frontier. Soon after the organization of the church, the gospel found his father, James Emmett who was then living in the wilds of Michigan, a friend and teacher of the redmen who were his only neighbors.
With his fathers family he passed through the drivings from Far West and Independence, Missouri and later from Nauvoo, Illinois.
In his young manhood he went thru the critical events connected to the martyrdoms of the prophet. Mr Emett recently made the following statement: "On one occasion I heard Joseph Smith say that this people could never progress while surrounded by their enemies, and they would likely have to go to the Rocky Mountains to enjoy peace and saftey."
On coming to Utah Mr Emett lived first in Ogden, but early in the sixty's he was called South and lived in Washington and Kane counties until he moved here.
He was the father of 8 children, 6 of whom are living, viz:Mrs Emily D Eldridge of Pinto, Mrs. Eleanor P Bigler of St George, James S Simpson of Lee's Ferry, Caroline C Day of Springville, Wy., Mrs Olive Moffat of Dublan, Mexico, and Moses M Emett of Big Horn, Wy. His wife Electra Jane Westover survives him.
The funeral was held in Fredonia. The speakers how euligized his life and labors of one of Gad's noble men.
