Braden had a desire to serve his country in the military began as a child and he talked to every branch of the military before joining the United States Army after graduating from Sherman Texas High School in 2005. He took his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and then was assigned as a Calvary Scout of the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, based at Fort Riley, Kansas and was deployed to Iraq in February, 2007. Braden married his wife, Teresa Duley, on November 4, 2005 in Sherman, Texas. He died of injuries sustained when his hmmwv came under grenade attack at the age of 19. He earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Badge, Iraqi Campaign Medal and Global War on Terrorism Medal. He is survived by his wife, Teresa of Big Spring, Texas; parents, Melanie Thrasher of Sherman and William "Bill" Long III of Arlington, Texas; one brother, William Long IV of Sherman; one sister, Michaela Thrasher of Sherman; grandparents, William Long, Jr. of Florida, and William Euans, Susan Long, and Shirley Dickinson, all of Ohio; one great grandparent, William G.
