Continental Congressman. He was a farmer on the Wright family plantation, "White Marsh." Wright was a member of Maryland's colonial Assembly from 1773 to 1774. In 1775 he was a founder of Maryland's Association of Freemen, an early Patriot organization. In 1776 he was a member of the convention that enacted Maryland's first post-colonial constitution. Beginning in February 1777 he served on the state Council of Safety, holding office until the council was abolished later that year. He was Justice of Queen Anne's County and county Register of Wills beginning in 1779. Wright served again served in the state Assembly from 1781 to 1782. From 1782 to 1783 he was a member of the Continental Congress, afterwards returning to farming at White Marsh, where he resided until his death. He was a cousin of Congressman, Governor and US Senator Robert Wright, who was also a native of Queen Anne's County.
