Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as Lieutenant Colonel of the 1st United States Sharpshooters. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Malvern Hill, Virginia on July 1, 1862. His citation reads "At a critical moment brought up two regiments, which he led against the enemy himself, being severely wounded". His Medal was issued on March 11, 1893.
