Cinematographer. Born in Vienna, Austria-Hungary, he was a photographer, film director, cinematographer, considered a founder of Slovak film education and filmmaking. Beginning in the 1920s, he helped establish the genre of ethnographic film in Czechoslovakia. His film credits included "Za slovenským ľudom" (1928), "Zem spieva" (1933), "Věčná píseň" (1941), "Chebsko" (1943) and "Roľnícky deň vo Zvolene" (1946). In 1950, due to health issues, he devoted himself mainly to landscape and architectural photography. His photographic and ethnographic work, was published in many books and was highly regarded both by public and experts. He died at age 92 in Prague, Slovakia.
