German Politician, Economist. He was born in Neustadt an der Aisch. After the end of World War II he was active in politics and became a founding member of the Christian Socialist Union Party in 1946, remaining a member his entire life. He was a member of the German Parliament from 1953 to 1990. During that time he was appointed by Chancelor Konrad Adenauer as Germany's Treasury Minister from 1962 to 1966, and later became Minister for Post and Communications from 1966 to 1969 and Transportation Minister from 1982 to 1987. Died at his home in Neustadt an der Aisch.
