Third wife of Chairman Mao Zedong. She and Mao Zedong, the founder of the People's Republic of China, were married in May of 1928 until 1939. She married Mo, a widower, whose wife was killed by Chinese Nationalist Party forces. Born in Yunshan, she joined the Communist Party of China in 1926, where she met Mao, Her husband was a classmate of her older brother. She and Mao had six children, three boys and three girls. Except for all one daughter, Li Min, all of her children died at a young age or were placed with foster families. Technically, she is the third wife of Mao, as when Mao was 14, his father arranged a marriage with a local girl but Mao never acknowledged the marriage. The couple divorced in 1937 and her husband remarried in November of 1938.
