US Congressman. A successful plantation owner, he served as a member of the State House of Representatives, 1802 to 1809 and in the State Senate, 1810 to 1813. In 1817, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifteenth Congress, serving until 1819. Not a candidate for reelection, he engaged in planting until his death.
