Karl D. Farley, an Ogdensburg Soldier killed during World War II has been posthumously awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star Medal. Notification of the awards was received recently by his father, J. Farley, 1 Division St., from the Office of the Adjutant General, Department of the Army.
The citation for the Silver Star reads:
"For gallantry in action. Sergeant Farley, exhibiting outstanding leadership and remarkable courage, led his men in a successful attack upon the enemy. His deep concern for the safety of his men and devotion to duty cost him his life in this action."
The citation for the Bronze Star reads:
"For exemplary conduct in ground combat against the enemy during the Tunisia Campaign in the North African Theater of Operations".
In addition to the Silver Star and the Bronze Star Medal, Sgt Farley was authorized the Purple Heart, for having made the supreme sacrifice in defense of his country; the American Defense Service Medal; the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with bronze arrowhead for the invasion of Algeria-French Morocco and Tunisia Campaigns; World War Ii Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge with rifle bar; Expert Badge with bayonet bar.
The medals will be sent to his father. In addition, the Department of Army will send a Gold Star Lapel Button.
An accolade, approved by the president in recognition of the sacrifice made by those soldiers who died in the service of their country, certificates for the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart have been received by Mr. Farley.
