Pvt. Leon Dunn, 19, son of Mr, and Mrs. Cealon Dunn, 6 Burney avenue, and native of Morristown reported June 16 as missing in Italy, was revealed, by the war department yesterday to have lost his life in action on May 28.
A war department, telegram, to that effect was received by his parents from Maj. Gen. A. J. Ulio, adjutant general. The message follows:
The secretary of war desires that I tender his deep sympathy in the loss of your son, Pvt. Leon Dunn, who was previously reported missing in action. . Report now received states he was killed in action 28 May in Italy. Letter follows."
The. last letter from him his parents received was written on May 25 and it stated that he was on a rest period, fighting had been "tougher" than usual.
Private Dunn was born in Morristown, Sept. 7, 1924. He attended Morristown High School, completing his junior year. He was active in school athletics and was a member of the school band. He was a member of the Methodist Church, and also an auxiliary fireman.
Entering service last September he was stationed at Port McClellan, Ala., where he received training in an infantry school. From the latter part of January until Feb. 8 he was home on furlough, returning to Fort, George G. Meade, Md.
Shortly thereafter he went overseas, landing in Morocco on March 8. Later in April lie was transferred to Anzio beachhead and was killed in the drive on Rome.
He was one of two sons of Mr. and Mrs. Dunn. The other son, Pvt. Everett Dunn, is in New Guinea, South' Pacific. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Ray Boyer and Miss Helen Dunn of Massena.
