I have sent up my gladness on wings, to be lost in the blue of the sky.

My cheek like a drowsy child to the face of the earth I have pressed.

I have kissed young Love on the lips, I have heard his song to the end,
I have struck my hand like a seal in the loyal hand of a friend.
I have known the peace of heaven, the comfort of work done well.
I have longed for death in the darkness and risen alive out of hell.

I give a share of my soul to the world, when and where my course is run.
I know that another shall finish the task I must leave undone.
I know that no flower, nor flint was in vain on the path I trod.
As one looks on a face through a window, through life I have looked on God,

Peggy Marie Podboy, 50, of Mount Prospect, knew how to fight. She established her own business, stared into the eyes of a mountain lion and battled breast cancer for eight years.
Ms. Podboy died of cancer Tuesday in Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Ms. Podboy graduated from Steinmetz High School in Chicago. She worked for 11 years as the Director of Meetings for the Chicago-based American Association of Neurological Surgeons, where she was in charge of planning events and organizing conventions.
With her experience in special-events planning, Ms. Podboy started a business in 1988 in her Mt. Prospect home. Her company, FOCUS, planned meetings and conventions for neurological surgeons across the nation, including those in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida.
"She brought a wealth of experience to our meetings," said Maureen Frazier, a program assistant at the University of Florida. "She was a mentor."
Always a lover of nature, Ms. Podboy took a trip in 1995 to Glacier National Park in Montana. During a hiking excursion, Ms. Podboy encountered a mountain lion. "The lion never really threatened her," recalled her brother, Ron. "She saw it as a sign ... a spiritual awakening in nature."
Other survivors include a son, Jim; her father, Alfred; two sisters, Donna Sulkosky and Patti; and a granddaughter. A Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Emily Catholic Church, 101 N. Horner Ln., Mount Prospect.

Born Oct. 29, 1948, in Chicago, she died while surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Lutheran General Hospital, after an 8-year battle with breast cancer.
Ms. Podboy was president and owner of FOCUS Meetings and Events since 1993. Prior to that, she was director of meetings at the American Association of Neurological Surgeons for 10 years. Her love of nature, wildlife and the great outdoors led her to an encounter with a mountain lion while hiking to Sperry Chalet in 1995 at Glacier National Park in Montana.
Survivors include her son, Jim Podboy; granddaughter, Taylor Podboy of New Libson, Wis.; brother, Ron (Janet) Podboy of Littleton, Colo.; sister, Donna (Bob) Sulkosky of Willow, Alaska; father, Alfred Podboy; and sister, Patti Podboy of Mount Prospect.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Esther Podboy (nee Pecaro) in 1983.
Ms. Podboy was also a fond cousin and supportive friend of many; her grace, strength and determination inspired all.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
