Herschel Shelby McCants of Colorado Springs, formerly of Canon City, died Sept. 26, 1987 at his home. He was born Dec. 9, 1913 in Seminole, Okla. to Robert Franklin and Mamie (Kelley) McCants. He was 73 years old.

Mr. McCants was a retired painting contractor, and a member of the 1st Christian Church while in Canon City. He moved to Colorado in 1951 from Casper, Wyoming. He lived in Canon City from 1965 to 1967.

He married Mildred Davis Jan. 25, 1936 in Oklahoma. She preceded him in death in 1968. He is survived by a son; Kenneth E. McCants of Casper; daughter, Patricia Meyer of Castle Rock; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters, Ann Hickman of Shawnee, Okla., and Veva James of California. In addition to his wife, Mr. McCants was preceded in death by a sister, Sadie Atkinson.
