1916 - Whilst Britain was executing men for fighting for their own country others were fighting and dying for Britain. Such irony.

"My Jesus Mercy" were the last words of Eamonn Ceannt before he was executed on the morning of May 8, 1916. The quote comes from the autobiography of his wife Aine Ceannt. May God grant your soul peace, Eamonn. Ireland owes you a debt it can never repay. Rest in peace brave soldier.

It is said that during the fighting in the South Dublin Union he remained calm and brave at a position his men held until learning of the surrender on Sunday. RIP
