Kennedy Family Figure, Lawyer, Journalist, and Magazine Publisher. He was the son of the 35th United States President John F. Kennedy. Born at the Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., as the third child of then-President-elect Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, and younger brother to Caroline Kennedy (Schlossberg), he is famously remembered for saluting the casket of his assassinated father during the President's funeral, which took place on his third birthday. John F. Kennedy Jr. spent most of his formative years and adult life in Manhattan, New York City, New York, with his mother Jacqueline. He was an alumnus of the prestigious boy's preparatory school, Phillips Academy, in Andover, Massachusetts, and of Brown University, an Ivy League college located in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1983, he earned a Bachelor's degree in history from Brown. He was named "Sexiest Man Alive" by People Magazine on September 12, 1988. He went on to earn a law degree from New York University in 1989 after finally passing the NY bar exam on his third attempt. Kennedy's 1988 keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, led to speculation among journalists and politicians that he was being groomed to carry on the Kennedy political dynasty. However, he continued to practice law and delved into the realm of magazine publishing. He served as Assistant District Attorney of New York City from 1989 to 1993. In 1995, he launched the immediately popular magazine "George," a youth-oriented magazine devoted to politics and popular culture. Five years after his mother's death, he died with Carolyn Bessette, his wife of three years, and her older sister, Lauren, in a plane crash over the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Martha's Vineyard caused by spatial disorientation. A pilot, Kennedy was en-route to the Kennedy family home on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts to attend a wedding for his cousin, Rory Kennedy. He was survived by his sister Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg and a large extended family.
