Donald was born Sept. 24, 1934 in Chardon, Ohio. A son of Ralph and Dorothy Loveland Sampson. Don worked for Peerless Electric for 13 years and then for 28 years for General Motors retiring 1994. He was a 1953 graduate of Windham High School where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Basketball and Football in 1998. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Niles. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Don's survivors include his Mother Dorothy Mattson; (His mom is now with him)... she died peacefully at the age of 94, Feb. 26, 2007; his wife Loretta Ann Luknis Sampson whom he married July 20, 1957; they were married 44 yrs; two sons Donald E., Jr. and his wife Barbara and Jeffrey D. and his wife Tammy; two half sisters Gayle Mattson and Linda Pennington; Also a half brother, Boris Harold Sampson is also deceased.... four grandchildren Matthew Sampson and Amber Sampson and William Alexander Heath Sampson and Abigail Sampson; 2 great grandsons. His Father precedes him in death.
Don died of a blood clot in his right leg that traveled to his heart at his home, while he attempted to take his dog Tasha for a walk....... Tasha Sampson is with him now, passing away Oct.7th 2006.
