Musician. He was a musical composer and producer, singer, played the guitar along with being a songwriter in his native Portuguese. With his first recording being released in 1967, he released 21 albums throughout his 26-year career. He was one of the first Brazilian Rock 'n Roll performers. He wrote and performed classics like "Gita," "Eu Nasci Há 10.000 anos atrás" and "Cowboy fora da Lei." Born Raul Santos Seixas, he was called the "Father of Brazilian Rock." He learned English as a boy while listening to his idol, Elvis Presley and other American Rock 'n Roll classic performers. With his interest in his country's politics, many critics claimed his lyrics had double meanings. The biography "Raul Seixas: Don't Say the Song Is Lost," by Jotabê Medeiros deals with this subject. Shortly after his last record was released, he died from chronic pancreatitis and diabetes. He had battled drug abuse and alcoholism for many years. His birthday is celebrated as a holiday by his many fans. In October of 2008, nineteen years after his death, Raul Seixas was placed in the 19th position in a list of one hundred greatest artists of Brazilian music sponsored by the Brazilian edition of "Rolling Stone" magazine. He married twice and had three daughters. The LP "A Panela Do Diabo" sold 150,000 copies, earning him a posthumous Gold Record.
