My paternal ancestors came from Barren and Hart Counties in KY and several were actually neighbors of Floyd Collins. Growing up in the '50's in Indiana, we still heard much about his ordeal. My Dad and my Grandpa mentioned him often. My Dad wasn't born until 1925, but he had heard his family tell the story of Floyd many times and knew it nearly as well as our ancestors did.I remember seeing a documentary about Floyd Collins when I was very young, and Daddy told me the story many times afterward. I wish I could have known Floyd, sorry for the manner of his death, grateful to know about it. Many blessings to his family.

I have heard this story my whole life as my family told it. Floyd was my Mothers 2nd? cousin and My Grandma and grandpa told this story on many occasions... I had visited the caves many times, as well as, the lil museum they have in honor of him. I have the t-shirt signed from the actor that played him in the movie. This is respected American history but it's Amazing Family history as well. to think that all those Americans hearing (by word of Mouth) of him being trapped came from all over "By wagon" to assist and help in anyway they could is heart warming. They had no conveniences of today. It was the Biggest rescue mission between WW1 and WW2. You are not forgotten I never met you but you have been an Honor legacy in my family history. God bless

I cried listening to the 1995 musical about Floyd Collins. Very inspiring, beautiful, and haunting... hopefully like the man himself.

have done a lot of Reading and research on you Floyd and made many Visits to your First cave you found in 1917 Crystal Cave and the one you met your fate Sand Cave in 1925. I wished they had done more for you and not had so many in the cave not doing much work to help. the old guard rails and opening to Crystal Cave are still there as is your home and old ticket booth. you are gone but not forgotten.
