U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Ohio State University, in 1933, was a teacher in Flushing, Ohio, (1934-37) and in Findlay, Ohio, (1937-38). He also engaged in agricultural pursuits, was Mayor of Flushing, Ohio, (1939-45), served in the Ohio State Senate, (1941-42) and Commissioner of Belmont County, (1945-49). In 1949, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-first Congress and to the next thirteen succeeding Congresses, serving until his resignation in 1976. After leaving office, he was a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives, (1978-80) and raised cattle on his farm until his death from a heart attack.
