U.S. Congressman. He immigrated to America in 1868 and settled in Mower County, Minnesota. Relocating to Ottertail County, in 1871, he was employed in the county auditor’s office in 1872 and taught in schools of that county, (1874-79). He also was the county justice of the peace, (1875-1900), county commissioner in 1880 and county register of deeds,(1888-92). In 1893, he was elected as a Populist to the Fifty-third Congress, serving until 1895. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was editor of the Fergus Falls Globe and engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death at age 61.
