New Hampshire Governor. Moving to New Hampshire in 1845, to work in furniture manufacturing, he eventually became head of the South Keene Chair Manufacturing Company and the Ashuelot Furniture Company. Due to his success in manufacturing, he also expanded in banks and railroad venues. Entering politics, he served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, (1866-67) and was a member of the Governor’s Council, (1869-1871). In 1883, he was elected as a Republican the 39th Governor of New Hampshire, serving until 1885. After leaving office, he returned to his former business interests until his death at age 68.
