U.S. Congressman. At the time he entered politics, he was president of the Bank of Rutland, Vermont. He was a member of the Vermont State House of Representatives, (1827-29, 39-40) and served in the Vermont State Senate, (1845-47). On December 1, 1856, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of James Meacham and served until March 3, 1857. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his banking position until his death.
