Marie Antoninette Laure Villere, was born May 22, 1823, died March 21, 1850, buried in the old St. Bernard parish cemetery.
In the quaint little cemetery of the Terre-aux-boeuf country, parish of St. Bernard, can be found the fomb of the aristocratic and lovely wife of General Beauregard.
Cut into a white marble slab is a final tribute in fragrant word flowers to the memory of this colonial belle. A feeling of sadness fills one's heart as these beautiful sentiments greet the eye, for thoughts of the mother who gave her life to bring her daughter into the world are recalled as we read:
"Ici repose Marie-Antoinette Laure Villere Espouse du Major G.T. Beauregard nee le 22 Mai, 1823, decedee le 21 Mars 1850."
"Esprit descendu du ciel, tu y'est remonte; dors en paix, fille, espouse et mere cheri."
This simple grave in that little cemetery - held all that was mortal of the lovely being who, as a golden band, united two of the most aristocratic families in the State of Louisiana."
Her son Henri was interred with her at his death in 1915.
