U.S. Senator, Soldier. Served as the Surgeon General of the Delaware Militia in the War of 1812. Served in the Delaware State House of Representatives from 1823 to 1827 holding the office of Speaker of the House in 1826. Elected to represent Delaware in United States Senate and served from 1830 to 1836. Served in the Delaware State Senate from 1836 to 1839.
