U.S. Congressman. Born the son of Congressman William Aldrich, he moved with his parents to Illinois, in 1861, attended Chicago University, graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute New York, in 1877 and engaged in the manufacture of linseed oil. He was president of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, (1886-88) and commissioner for the public works of Chicago, (1891-93). In 1893, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-third and Fifty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1897. After leaving Congress, he was appointed consul general at Havana, Cuba, but never took office due to the Spanish American War, in 1898. He was then a receiver of national banks and a railroad appraiser, (1898-1923). He died in retirement at age 79.
