U.S. Congressman. After graduating from the Manitowoc County Normal School, he taught school at Mishicot, Wisconsin (1903-07). He graduated from Chicago Law School in 1910, was admitted to the bar and commenced the practice of law in Chicago, Illinois. He was assistant corporation counsel of Chicago (1919-20), first assistant State's attorney of Cook County (1921-23), judge of the Municipal Court of Chicago (1923-37), judge of the Superior Court of Cook County (1941-42) and associate member of Board of Pardons and Paroles of Illinois (1945-47). In 1949, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-first, Eighty-second, and Eighty-third Congresses, serving until 1955. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
