US Congressman. He engaged in agricultural pursuits on a plantation in Maysville, Kentucky, which was then a part of Virginia. He served as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, (1790-93) and in the Virginia State Senate in 1792. In 1792, he was elected as an Anti-Administration candidate to the Second and Third Congresses and reelected as a Republican to the Fourth Congress, serving until 1797. After his term he returned to his plantation and agricultural pursuits, until his death at age 73.
