U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Indiana University at Bloomington, in 1882, the law department of Columbian University, in 1884, was admitted to the bar in 1885 and proceeded to practice law in Evansville, Indiana. He was a member of the Indiana State House of Representatives in 1893 and judge of the superior court of Vanderburg County, (1896-1905). In 1905, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-ninth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of James A. Hemenway and reelected to the Sixtieth Congress, serving until 1909. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 55.
