US Congressman. He attended Bethany Academy, studied law, was admitted to the bar and opened a legal practice in Statesville, North Carolina. He served in the North Carolina State Senate, (1833-34) and was a member of the North Carolina State House of Commons, (1838-44). In 1849, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-first and Thirty-second Congresses, serving until 1853. After his term, he died three months later at age 45.
