U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Franklin College in 1825, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1825 and commenced to practice law in Lagrange, Georgia, in 1828. He was a member of the Georgia State House of Representatives, (1831-32), served in the Georgia State Senate, (1837-38) and served in the State militia as a Major General in the Georgia State Militia, (1838-50). In 1843, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-eighth, Twenty-ninth, Thirtieth and Thirty-first Congresses, serving until 1851. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 48.
