Mom had 3 children and 4 stepchildren, 2 boys and 5 girls.
I admire her for putting up with all of us. We did not make her job easy. I remember when us girls had to wear dresses to school mom would stand for hours ironing our little dresses and never complained.
Mom had a heart of gold. She would do anything for anyone at anytime. She had a very hardy laugh that could make you smile no matter what kind of day you had. She loved to crochet. She crocheted afghans, bed dolls and stuffed animals. She also collected record albums.
The house we grew up in had about 15 foot of glass on one side of the living room. One of us kids sat a bowling ball on the couch brother jumped over the arm of the couch and the bowling ball bounced off and hit the glass door. My brother taped the hole with duct tape. He really believed that mom and dad would not notice the huge hole in the glass.
Mom never worked until all of us kids were in school. Once she started working she became a mail dept. manager at Consumer Communication Services and worked there for 21 years.
Mom told us that when she was little people would ask her what the "D" in her middle name stood for. She would tell them it was Dee and they would still ask her what the "D" stood for. Finally she started telling them the "D" stands for Darlene.
Mom and her brother and sister did not have an easy childhood but they had alot of love. They were very close as kids and remained that way. They also had 2 half brothers that were born after mom was grown.
Mom and dad bought a house in Carbon Indiana taking mom away from Indianapolis the city she dearly loved. Mom's sister Sandy lived in Carbon and they were very close, even with her sister living there it did not keep mom from wanting to go back home to Indianapolis.
In the early morning hours of February 16th 1997 mom's golden heart stopped beating. Our lives as we knew it would never be the same. We not only lost our mom but we lost our best friend.
Mom was preceded in death by her father Paul Wesley Kimberlin and her maternal and paternal grandparents. She was proceeded in death by her mother Velma Lorraine Cox and her sister Sandra Leah Chadwell.
Mom your time on earth was way too brief. I know that one day soon we will all be together again. Mom we are all fine please rest peacefully. I love you and miss you dearly.
