One of the most famous and most sought after photographers of the early cinema, he served as cinematographer on 735 motion pictures from 1896 to 1933 and director of 3 films in 1902, 1903 and 1908. A few of the more well-known films he photographed are: "Broken Blossoms" 1921 with Lillian Gish & Richard Barthelmess, "Orphans of the Storm" with Lillian & Dorothy Gish, "The Birth of A Nation," "Intolerance," "Judith of Bethulia" and "The Fall of Babylon" with Tully Marshall, Seena Owen & Constance Talmadge.
