U.S. Congressman. Immigrating with his father to the United States in 1814, he moved to Alabama in 1841, studied medicine, graduated from New Orleans Medical College in 1858 and started a medical practice at Elyton, Alabama. During the Civil War, he served as a Surgeon in the 3rd Regiment, Tennessee Volunteer Infantry, Union Army (1862-65). After the war, he resumed the practice of machine and upon the readmission of the State of Alabama to representation, he was elected as a Republican to the Fortieth Congress, serving (1868-69). Not a candidate for re-nomination, while making a political speech in Courtland, Alabama, he was assassinated.
