Civil War Union Brigadier General. A 1819 graduate of West Point, Tyler saw action at the battle of Corinth and held posts at Harpers Ferry,VA among others. The General resigned from the army April 6, 1864. He died in New York City on November 30, 1882 and is buried in the Hillside Cemetery in Anniston, Alabama, a town he founded.
