U.S. Congressman. He immigrated with his parents to the United States in 1816 and settled in Ohio. He graduated from Franklin College in 1826, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1830, and commenced practicing law in St. Clairsville, Ohio. He was the prosecuting attorney of Belmont County, Ohio (1837 to 1841) and was elected as a Democrat to the Thirtieth Congress (1847 to 1849). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and served as judge of the Court of Common Pleas of the Ohio fifteenth judicial district (1865 to 1867).
