Romanian-Albanian Nobility. Her family name was Maria Despina, probably originally from Albania and with possible ancestors of Carpathian origin. She married Radu III, Vlad III's younger brother and his successor as the voivode of Wallachia with the support of Muhammad II. Maria's life as a consort princess was quite turbulent. In fact, when her husband was deposed by Stephen III of Moldavia, she was held hostage in Bucovina until her death, together with her daughter Maria Voichita.
