A daughter of Bethel Berkshire and Hester Gray, she married on May 26, 1916 to Charles Armstrong . She died of breast cancer. When she was in her last illness, she asked her childhood friend, Edna Conwell McIlvaine (who was a distant cousin of Charles'), to raise her daughter, Hester Ann.
