Architect. After studying mathematics in Göttingen and Achitecture in Munich, from 1826 to 1830 he lived in Paris, where he became a student of Franz Christian Gau. From 1830 to 1833 he traveled through Italy and Greece. After his return he became Professor of Architecture in Dresden and was appointed director of the Royal Saxon Academy of Fine Arts in 1834. He built the first Opera House in Dresden where Richard Wagner’s Opera “Rienzi” had a successful premiere. It burned down in 1869, was replaced later and now wears Semper’s name.
