His introduction to TV audiences was with an episode of the program "Naked City" (1962), which marked the beginning of an extensive body of work. He had featured roles in "The Bold Ones: The Lawyers" (1969 to 1972, as Neil Darrell), "Dynasty" (1981 to 1982, as Dr. Nick Toscanni) and "Blue Thunder" (1984, as Frank Chaney). He earned a Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomber with the film "The Pad and How to Use It" (1967) and received an Emmy Award nomination for "Jesus of Nazareth" (1977). Off-screen, Farentino was known for his turbulent temper and marriages. He was formerly united with actresses Elizabeth Ashley, Michele Lee and Debrah Farentino. At the time of his death, he was married to actress Stella Farentino.
