English Royalty. Second-born daughter of Henry III the Plantagenet, she married King Alexander II of the Dunkeld dynasty as a second wife in order to consolidate relations between the two nations. Historians and annals of the time assert that she was not at ease in Edinburgh due to the very secondary role imposed on her in the Scottish court. Probably this unhappy attitude of her was also due to her young age and loneliness. In 1257, she was temporarily kidnapped with her husband and imprisoned following a coup attempt organized by one of the powerful Scottish clans. The following years and until her death, Margaret lived without any particular interest in the affairs of state, dealing exclusively with the care of her children.
