Documentary Filmmaker and Anthropologist. The French director was a pioneer of the "cinema verite" style of documentary filmmaking, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Documentary Association in 2001. Several of his films won awards in festivals around the world. His 1976 film "Babutu" was nominated for the Golden Palm at Cannes. Jean Rouch was killed in a car crash in Niger while attending a film festival.
