A native of Wednesbury, West Midlands, England, Father Gerard joined the White Fathers and was ordained to the priesthood in Carthage, Tunisia, on March 25, 1939. Assigned to Tanzania, he rendered services across Lukula, Tabora, Rubya, Itaga, Ussongo, and Tlawi, serving among others as curate and secretary to the local bishop.
Father Gerry's Requiem Mass was held on Friday, January 4, 2008, at Ealing Abbey at 11.00 am., followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Kensal Green, at 1.00 pm.
