The conventual manuscripts narrate that he was a virtuous and merciful man as well as a rigorous defender of monastic rules and a careful administrator of the Order's assets. Moreover, there are many episodes handed down about his miracles at the basis of his extra-procedural canonization. It is said in fact (Leo Marsicanus dixit) that he walked on the waters of the Liri river during one of his pilgrimages, having no other means to cross it. Some Abbots,his successors, including Desiderius and Bassacius tell in the annals of the abbey that Apollinaris appeared to them after his death during the siege and the attempt of destruction by the Saracens who gave up their violent attempt thanks to a river flood. His remains were first placed in the Chapel of San Giovanni Battista and now rest in the chapel dedicated to him in the Monastery of Montecassino.
