An obituary published in the Herald and Review for Mary Catherine "Kay" Baydar, 67, of Ridgeland, South Carolina, formerly of Shelbyville and Tower Hill, states that she had died November 16, 2003 in the Bayview Nursing Center, Beaufort, South Carolina. She was born April 24, 1936, in Tower Hill, the daughter of Alvin Fred and Xenia Geneva Foor Mathias. She married Ersal Suphi Baydar on June 13, 1982, in Shelbyville. Surviving were her husband; brother, Ervin Mathias and wife Frances of Burleston, Texas; sisters, Maxine Cotton of Shelbyville; Shirley Dahman of Decatur; Agnes Chidley and husband Larry of Dixon; Freda Owen and husband Earl of California, Md.; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Bertha Mathias, Selma Emig and Earlene Phelps; and brother, Alvin Mathias. Mrs. Baydar was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University at Charleston and formerly taught high school in Nokomis; Goldsboro, N.C.; Granville; Beaufort; and at Abundant Life Academy in Hardeeville, S.C. She was presently a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church in Goldsboro.
