World War I Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. Born in Motherwell, Scotland, he served as a Corporal in the 6th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment, British Army. In actions at Poelcapelle Belgium, on October 9, 1917, Corporal Clamp rushed a German machine-gun and captured 20 prisoners. He then continued forward leading others to another enemy position when he was killed by a sniper. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross presented to his parents by H.M. King George V at Buckingham Palace on March 2, 1918.
