Red in the eastern sun, before he died,We saw his glinting hair; his arms were tied. There by his lonely form, ugly and grimWe saw an open grave waiting for him.We watched him from our fence, in silent throng,Each with the fervent prayer, "God make him strong."They offered him a smoke, he'd not have that,Then at his captor's feet he coldly spat.He faced the leaden hail, his eyes were bare;We saw the tropic rays glint in his hair. What mattered why he stood facing the gun?We saw a nation's pride there in the sun. -Lt. Henry G. Lee

Day is done....gone the sun...from the hills....from the lake...from the sky....All is well...safely rest....God is nigh...~~~~Go to sleep....peaceful sleep...may the soldier or sailor God keep....on the land or the deep...safe in sleep...~~~~Love, good night....must thou go...when the day and the night need thee so?....All is well...speedeth all...to their rest...~~~~Fades the light...and afar....goeth day and the stars shineth bright....fare thee well...day has gone....night is on....~~~~Thanks and praise.....for our days...'Neath the sun....'Neath the stars....'Neath the sky.....As we go...this we know....God is nigh.

In memory of Lt. Henry G. Lee on POW/MIA recognition day, Sept. 20, 2013. Your words are so stirring to my soul. I think you were aware of your Divine purpose. I don't know if my Dad knew you, but you truly are one of the most inspiring soldiers of the 31st Inf. Regt. DEATH MARCHSo you are dead. The easy words containNo sense of loss, so sorrow, no despair. This hunger, thirst, fatigue, combines to drainAll feeling from our hearts. The endless glare,The brutal heat, anesthetize the mind.I can not mourn you now. I left my load,The suffering column moves, I leave behindOnly another corpse, beside the road.Written by Lt. Henry G. I ran across your story and of your fate and poems written during terrible times and they revealed to me a delicite splendid worshipper of life and it's beauty. A soft beacon of mezmerizing light, and then I noticed I had discovered this on the same day that you wrote it, December 9th. Not a coincidence I think, no I believe, and it makes me respect who you were in your heart as I felt it touched mine for a moment. You would not be turned into poisin by evil acts and your thoughts, spirit and words live on and grow. That is strenth and power that gives me goose bumps thinking about it. You were a light in the darkness Henry and must have been a welcomed friend to your associates. You did good. I feel more about you will surface and more will hear and learn and grow from it.

"Three Years After""Teach me to hate," I prayed for I was young,And fear was in my heart, and faith had fled."Teach me to hate! for hate is strength," I said"A staff to lean on." Thus my challenge flungInto the thunder of the clouds that hungCloaking with terror all the days ahead "Teach me to hate the world I loved is dead;Who would survive must learn a savage tongue."And I have learned and paid in days that ranTo bitter schooling. Love was lost in pains,Hunger replaced the beauty in life's plan,Honor and virtue vanished with the rainsAnd faith in God dissolved with faith in man.I have my hate! But nothing else remains.- Lt.Henry G. Lee
