Jacob Harrison Fudge died while fighting a prairie grass fire when visiting his wife's parents.

Obit - Humeston New Era, Humeston, Iowa - May 17, 1893

J. H. Fudge, at one time a resident of this locality, died in Decatur County, Kansas May 2. Mr. Fudge was born at Beardstown, Schuyler County, Illinois, in 1840, and in 1848 his parents moved to Van Buren County, Iowa, and three years later to Wapello County. They afterwards moved to Lucas County, near Derby, on the farm where A. Troutman now lives. He was married to Sarah, daughter of J. D. and Eliza Ann Comer. Nine children were born to them, seven of whom are living and were present at the funeral. In 1881 Mr. Fudge moved to Johnstown, Kansas and 1889 to Jennings, Decatur county, that state where he died. The funeral was held on May 5, and was largely attended. A. Sayers and wife of near Cambria, attended the funeral.
